The German government has established energy supply as its highest priority. Friedrich Merz (CDU) stated that the availability of essential products such as diesel and gasoline must be guaranteed. Currently, the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG), crude oil, and oil products is secured, and deliveries continue.

Merz pointed out that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz highlights the vulnerability of global energy markets. In some countries, oil and gas have become scarcer, leading to rising prices worldwide. The government has already implemented measures such as a temporary reduction in energy taxes and the introduction of a relief bonus to respond to the situation.

Additionally, Germany, along with other member states of the International Energy Agency (IEA), has released strategic oil reserves to increase supply. Kerosene is produced in Germany's own refineries from crude oil, providing an advantage over countries that are entirely dependent on imports. Currently, Germany sources only about six percent of its crude oil from the Middle East, while relying on Norway, the USA, Libya, and the UK.

The federal government is in constant communication with the transport sector, industry, and energy companies to respond to potential shortages in kerosene supply. The EU and the federal government will act decisively should shortages arise. The duration of the Iran war and its impact on energy prices will be crucial.
