In Bamberg, Schröder scored 20 points, making him the game’s top scorer. Before 5,713 spectators, Christian Sengfelder (19), Kay Bruhnke (16), and Sananda Fru (13) also contributed double-digit points to the win. Head coach Alex Mumbrú did without almost all key players – Schröder was the only world champion on the roster.
Germany had already qualified for the second qualifying phase before the game, which will take place in August, November, and March 2027 against Poland, the Netherlands, and Latvia. Since points from the first phase carry over, the win was still important. The team’s only loss in qualifying came in February away to Croatia.
Schröder, who has accepted the national team coach’s invitations every summer since 2017, told MagentaSport: “Every game is important, qualification or not. You have to represent the German eagle well. That’s why I’m here.” After a close first quarter (22:21), Germany pulled away with an 18:1 run and led by 25 points at halftime. The lead later grew to as many as 35 points.
