Katrin Staffler (CSU), the German government’s care commissioner, rejects repealing the 100,000-euro income threshold for children of nursing home residents. According to Deutschlandfunk, Staffler opposes plans to abolish the regulation without replacement. The threshold determines at what income level children must contribute to their parents’ care costs.
Staffler emphasized that the existing regulation is an important contribution to financially relieving the long-term care insurance system. Abolishing it would lead to higher contributions for all insured individuals. The debate over the threshold was recently reignited after several federal states called for its elimination.
