Kevin Warsh, the new chair of the US Federal Reserve (Fed), faces his first interest rate decision. The meeting takes place under changed conditions, as oil prices have fallen due to a planned framework agreement between the US and Iran. This could give Warsh room to keep rates steady, currently in the range of 3.5 to 3.75 percent.

However, markets may be underestimating potential inflation risks. According to Angela Göpfert of Tagesschau, the robust US economic development, which saw consumer prices rise by 4.2 percent in May, could pose challenges for Warsh. This price increase is the highest in three years and generally argues for a rate hike.

Edgar Walk, chief economist at Metzler Asset Management, emphasizes that Warsh is in a monetary policy dilemma. President Trump is pushing for looser monetary policy, complicating the situation for the new Fed chair. Walk explains that the right monetary policy this year could be a political minefield.

Warsh himself is betting on the possibility that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) could boost productivity in the long term. Higher productivity could help dampen price pressures and thus create deflationary effects. Warsh hopes these developments will help him navigate the challenges of the current economic situation.

Today’s Fed meeting is crucial as it could determine the direction of monetary policy in the coming months. Warsh will consider not only current economic indicators but also the political expectations tied to his appointment.

EuroPulse reported on June 12, 2026, about the cancellation of a US attack on Iran by President Trump, which strongly influenced the DAX. More information can be found at https://europulse.today/spacex-boersengang-treibt-dax-marktbericht/.
