Munich marks Elector Max Emanuel from 16 to 25 October. There is one tour just for children, plus events that need no concert ticket.

Munich’s Residenzwoche runs from 16 to 25 October 2026, and it is not only for concert regulars. For families, though, only one children’s event has been announced so far; the rest works if you know where to look.

The occasion is the 300th anniversary of the death of Elector Max Emanuel (d. 1726), under the motto “Pomp und Pose”. The organiser is the Bavarian Palace Administration (Bayerische Schlösserverwaltung); venues are the Residenz at Residenzstraße 1 and the New Palace in Schleißheim.

The children’s tour. On Friday 23 October, 14:30 to 16:00, the Residenzmuseum hosts “Horch, wer musiziert denn da?” (“Listen, who is playing there?”). It lasts about 90 minutes and is for children aged 6 to 10; an accompanying adult is required. Children learn about historic court instruments and may try some of them. The meeting point is the entrance hall of the Residenzmuseum. A participant card costs €3 per child; adults also need a museum admission ticket, whose price the event page does not give, so check the Palace Administration’s site. Whether advance registration is needed is not stated; to be safe, check via the linked ticket page.

No concert ticket needed. Three things do not need a separate card:

  • Wandelkonzerte (walking concerts): short performances during the museum visit, on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, 10:00 to 17:00 in the Residenz, and on Saturday 24 October, 11:00 to 15:00 in Schleißheim. They are included in admission or the tour price.
  • Public tours from 17 to 25 October: usually a €3 participant card, with museum admission on top for indoor tours; outdoor tours need no admission. The Schleißheim park tour starts at 13:15 on 24 and 25 October at the grand staircase of the New Palace.
  • Getting to Schleißheim: S1 to Oberschleißheim, then 10 to 15 minutes on foot, or bus 292 to “Schloss”.

With a concert ticket. The Bavarian Youth Baroque Orchestra plays on Saturday 17 October at 19:00 in the Antiquarium (€15 or €10, about 70 minutes): young musicians for young listeners, though not billed as a family concert. On Sunday 25 October, at 11:00 and 13:00 in Schleißheim, “Lust.Wandel” combines a concert with a palace tour (€20 or €15, about 60 minutes); no age guidance is given. For most other concerts the organisers list a €10 U30 ticket. The Antiquarium is not wheelchair accessible.

Our assessment: with children under six, Schleißheim’s park is an easier outing than the state rooms; for older children the 23 October tour is the best fit. muenchen.de said the family programme would appear in September with the full schedule, but the sources we checked list only this one tour. If you want more, check residenzwoche.de before you go. On 17 October the week overlaps with Munich’s Long Night of Museums: the Residenz by day and museums by night is possible, but long for small children.
