Four ideas for families on 24–25 October: the Kirchweihdult fair, the Munich Show gem fair, a children’s jazz concert and a paper theatre festival.

Clocks go back overnight into Sunday, 25 October (3:00 becomes 2:00), so the weekend comes with an extra hour. Here are four things to do with children in Munich on Saturday and Sunday – with prices, times and how to get there.

Kirchweihdult, Mariahilfplatz (Au). The autumn market runs until Sunday. Stalls are open daily 10:00–19:00 and rides from 10:30. Entry is free; the carousel, the 1925 Ferris wheel, dodgems and shooting galleries cost extra. There is a Kasperl puppet theatre – the city does not publish showtimes, so check auerdult.de. Free: “Orgel um Drei”, a 20-minute organ recital at Mariahilfkirche on Saturday and Sunday at 15:00. Take tram 18 to Mariahilfplatz or the U1/U2 to Kolumbusplatz. Changing and nursing spots and free drinking fountains are on site.

Munich Show gem and mineral fair (Riem). The public is admitted on Saturday and Sunday, 9:00–18:00, to halls A1–B3 (West entrance, Am Messesee 2). A day ticket costs €20, €15 from 14:00; the family ticket (two adults, up to three children aged 6–14) is €48, sold on site only. Children up to 5 get in free. According to the organisers, gold panning, a meteorite hunt, a geo-rally and dinosaur drawing are free; cutting a gemstone costs about €3 and soapstone carving about €5. Take the U2 to Messestadt West.

“Balduin und der Jazz”, Bergson (Sunday, 11:00). A hands-on children’s concert of about an hour, recommended from age 4; doors open at 10:30. Maximilian Maier as Balduin and a band of trumpet, piano, drums and double bass trace the story of jazz. Children under 14 get in free, sponsored by Stadtsparkasse München; adults pay €26, €32 or €38. Tickets are sold at tickets.bergson.com – check availability first.

Paper Theatre Festival “alles Papier” (Bogenhausen). The tenth Munich festival runs until Sunday at Kleines Theater im Pförtnerhaus, Oberföhringer Straße 156. Tickets start at €7, three performances of your choice cost €36, cash only. A registration-only workshop takes place on Saturday, 14:00–16:00. The programme with showtimes is on the festival website.

On a tight budget, the Dult and organ recital cost only what you spend there, and Bavaria’s state museums are €1 on Sundays, as we reported earlier. Prices and times may change; details as published by organisers on 22 October.
