Since June, the new Mireo trains have been gradually introduced on the S5/S5X line between Halle and Leipzig. The trains are around 140 meters long – too long for several platforms in northern Halle. As a result, the rear section of the train remains locked between Halle Hauptbahnhof and Halle-Trotha. Passengers heading north of the main station should board the front section or change trains at the main station. The operator Länderbahn confirmed this to dpa.
The affected stations are Steintorbrücke, Dessauer Brücke, Zoo, Wohnstadt Nord, and Trotha. The transfer arrangement is expected to remain necessary until summer 2028. By then, the platforms at Trotha and Steintorbrücke are to be extended, and new platforms built at Wohnstadt Nord, Zoo, and Dessauer Brücke. The new platform at Halle-Südstadt is currently scheduled to be completed only by the end of 2028.
According to Länderbahn, the inconvenience has been limited so far because the heaviest passenger traffic is between Halle and Leipzig. Passenger information is to be further improved.
