Pilots’ Union Cockpit Ryanair of Unfair Negotiation Tactics

The pilots' union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) has accused Ryanair of using unfair methods in ongoing collective bargaining. Members of the negotiation committee were allegedly subjected to disciplinary measures to pressure them.

The union stated that individual members of the negotiation committee and other union-affiliated employees had been subjected to disciplinary action. In response, pilot representatives from several European countries jointly expressed a vote of no confidence in management.

VC Andreas Pinheiro said the negotiations are now being accompanied by professional negotiators and lawyers. This was a necessary reaction to the personal strain on those affected. Ryanair rejected the allegations and declined to comment on individual cases.

The Irish airline had previously announced it would close its Berlin base in autumn and significantly reduce its offerings. The VC sees this as a punitive measure after resistance to new working time regulations emerged there. Collective bargaining for German pilots is stalled, according to the union.
