German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius reaffirmed on Tuesday in Kyiv the collaboration with Ukraine on the construction of new weapon systems. "We are strategic partners. On one hand, we continue to support you in your defense struggle, but on the other hand, we are increasingly relying on a structured, long-term partnership," stated the SPD politician during his meeting with Ukrainian Mychajlo Fedorow.
The discussions focused on the joint development of advanced unmanned systems, particularly in the area of so-called Deep Strike capabilities. These capabilities allow for striking important targets deep in the enemy's rear. Pistorius emphasized the need to quickly close the capability gaps of NATO states in this area.
Additionally, Pistorius and Fedorow signed a letter of intent for cooperation on the "Brave One" platform, which aims to promote promising innovations. Fedorow thanked Germany for its support over the past years, describing it as a leader in providing assistance for air defense and infrastructure protection.
In recent years, Ukraine has made significant advancements in weapon technology and is now considered one of the leading countries in the use of drones. This development is a response to the challenges posed by the ongoing war against Russia. According to Western military reports, Russia lost more territory in April 2023 than it occupied anew.
