During a press conference on May 9, Vladimir Putin suggested that the topic of ending the war against Ukraine is "almost concluded." This statement was interpreted by Russian state media as a hint at a soon-to-come end to the conflict. However, analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) emphasize that Putin's rhetoric remains aggressive and there are no signs of actual peace readiness.

Putin stated that the absence of military equipment at the May 9 parade was due to the need to concentrate resources for the "final victory over Ukraine." This indicates that Russia has not abandoned its maximalist goals and continues to aim for the capitulation of the Ukrainian government.

Additionally, Gazeta.ua reported that ongoing Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory are increasing pressure on the Kremlin and undermining Putin's authority. Political scientist Artem Bronzhuk pointed out that the Russian leadership quickly agreed to a ceasefire out of fear of Ukrainian attacks during the parade, but this does not mean the end of the war.

ISW analysts highlight that Putin's statements are primarily directed at the Russian population, which is increasingly suffering from the consequences of the prolonged war and economic burdens. The Kremlin is attempting to calm public sentiment while the reality of the war continues to press on.
