Ralph Siegel, the 80-year-old composer, is in an induced coma with severe pneumonia. His wife Laura Käfer told Bild that doctors plan to gradually bring him out of the coma in two days.
Siegel is being treated in the intensive care unit of a Munich hospital. Laura Käfer keeps regular vigil at her husband’s bedside.
“He is still in the artificial coma, but he reacts when we play his favorite music or when I give him a kiss,” Laura Käfer told Bild. She remained optimistic: “Everyone was hoping very much that he would make it again this time.”
The composer, who won the Eurovision Song Contest with Nicole and “Ein bisschen Frieden,” has faced many health challenges in recent years. He has battled several cancers and has long suffered from polyneuropathy.
The family, including their daughter Alana, has gathered. Alana Siegel also spoke to Bild with optimism, saying: “My dad is a fighter. I know he will make it because I don’t know anyone as strong as him.”
