Munich's public utilities (SWM) have announced that renovation work on the Poccistraße and Goetheplatz subway stations will commence on May 18. The project will be carried out in three phases over several months, leading to significant disruptions for passengers on the U3 and U6 subway lines.
In the first construction phase, which lasts until September 18, the U3 will only operate between Moosach and Sendlinger Tor, as well as between Fürstenried West and Implerstraße. The U6 will also face restrictions, running only between Garching-Forschungszentrum or Fröttmaning and Sendlinger Tor, and between Klinikum Großhadern and Implerstraße. During this period, passengers will need to rely on a substitute bus service (SEV).
SWM has stated that the renovation is necessary due to crumbling concrete at Goetheplatz and concerns about the structural stability of the station at Poccistraße. The construction will also involve the renewal of escalators and modernization of signage to ensure level access for boarding and alighting.
After a break during the Oktoberfest, which begins on September 19, the second construction phase will take place from October 5 to November 27. During this time, a shuttle subway service will be established between Goetheplatz and Implerstraße, while the SEV buses will continue to operate.
The final construction phase is scheduled from April 12 to August 1, 2027, during which subway operations between Implerstraße and Sendlinger Tor will be completely suspended. SWM will keep passengers informed about the construction measures and operational plans on their website.
