Ukraine has offered Germany the delivery of long-range drones and missiles after the U.S. canceled the deployment of Tomahawk cruise missiles. Alonya Getmanschuk, the Ukrainian ambassador to NATO, stated that her country is capable of supplying NATO countries with effective weapons.
Getmanschuk emphasized that Ukraine is ready to fill the capability gaps within NATO, particularly for precision strikes. "We have learned a lot and can offer unique solutions," she said. These capabilities are especially crucial as the U.S. faces challenges in providing sufficient weapons due to inventory issues.
In July 2024, then U.S. Joe Biden and then Olaf Scholz agreed to station Tomahawk cruise missiles in Germany to deter Russia. However, this decision was not implemented by the administration under Donald Trump, leading to a gap in Germany's defense capabilities.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius highlighted the need to address this gap. The cruise missiles were initially intended as a stopgap measure until Europe develops its own systems.
