Russia’s embassy in London accused the British government of deliberately seeking to escalate the war in Ukraine by supplying the drones. At the same time, London was “hypocritically” professing a desire for peace. In a statement, it said Britain’s actions would “inevitably have consequences” for which the country would have to be held accountable. The deeper its involvement in the war, the higher the price would be.
Britain’s Ministry of Defence reacted calmly. A spokesperson told the BBC that Britain stood “shoulder to shoulder” with Ukraine. The government was determined to provide Kyiv with the equipment it needed to defend against Putin’s illegal invasion. Russia should have no doubt about the government’s resolve to stand up to Russian aggression.
Sunday Times had previously reported, citing Ukrainian military circles, that drones from two British manufacturers had been used for the first time to strike targets in Russia’s rear. The BBC also reported the use of British drones, citing a military source. Kyiv has recently expanded its drone strikes, repeatedly hitting oil refineries and logistics centers and causing billions in damage to Russia’s war economy.
