According to 24tv, citing political scientist and former lawmaker Oleksandr Tschernenko, precise Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian oil refineries have led to noticeable fuel shortages. At least 25 regions are affected, with drivers queuing in long lines at gas stations. Tschernenko writes in a column for Zensor.NET that the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has thus brought the population of one of the world’s leading oil-producing countries into dependence on fuel rationing.
The expert emphasizes that the key damage lies not only in destroyed tanks and billions in losses. Russia is increasingly losing the ability to convert oil into money and money into war. This is part of a large-scale campaign by SBU chief Jewhen Chmara aimed at exhausting the Russian economy and destroying its foundations.
Tschernenko highlights that the attacks have a cumulative effect: the Kremlin can still cover up a single hit, downplay two, but with regular attacks, the system loses its resilience. He recalls Barack Obama’s former remark that Russia is a “gas station” – an expression that stung at the time. Today, that status must first be earned again, because a gas station has fuel. But when depots burn, refineries are in flames, and fuel is only distributed by rationing in half the regions, that is no longer an energy power, but a state losing control over its own fuel system.
