As reported by Tagesspiegel, Bruch said: “If we don’t bring data centers and the associated value creation into the country, it will have consequences for our prosperity.” Siemens Energy does not build data centers itself but supplies the industry.
Bruch pointed to the halted construction of a data center in Maintal near Frankfurt, which US company Edgeconnex canceled after protests from a citizens’ initiative. At the center of criticism was a planned gas-fired power plant to supply electricity to the facility. “Honestly, things like that leave me baffled,” Bruch said in Hamburg. Those who come too late will be punished by life – “I see this danger very concretely when it comes to data centers and AI.”
Germany currently has a data center capacity of just under three gigawatts, of which around 500 megawatts are for AI. Expansion to at least six gigawatts is planned, with two gigawatts reserved for AI applications. In international comparison, the US leads ahead of China, and Europe risks falling behind, according to Bruch.
EuroPulse reported on June 11, 2026, about Siemens Energy, which is benefiting from a global natural gas boom despite the crisis in the Iran war (https://europulse.today/siemens-energy-erdgas-turbinen-boom-trotz-irankrieg/).
