The Trionda, named after the Spanish term for “three waves,” symbolizes the three host nations: the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The construction with only four panels is intended to create a more uniform surface. A physicist told Spiegel that a perfectly round ball is not desirable – the number and shape of the panels influence flight behavior.
Beyond the ball, the 2026 World Cup brings further innovations: For the first time, 48 teams will compete instead of 32, with matches played from June 11 to July 19, 2026, across 16 stadiums. There are also three official mascots – a moose (Canada), a jaguar (Mexico), and a bald eagle (USA).
