Joshua Kimmich and the DFB team face underdog Curaçao in their World Cup opener. The match in Houston kicks off at 7:00 PM German time. Curaçao, with around 150,000 inhabitants the smallest World Cup participant, qualified for the first time and remained unbeaten in qualifying.

Julian Nagelsmann warns against the opponent, who sits 82nd in the FIFA rankings. The best-known player is Armando Obispo of Eindhoven. Germany is a four-time world champion, last triumphing in 2014.

In the evening, the Netherlands also play against Japan (10:00 PM), Ivory Coast against Ecuador (1:00 AM), and Sweden against Tunisia (4:00 AM). The World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada has been running since June 11, with the final on July 19.

EuroPulse reported on June 14 about the DFB team’s favorite role against Curaçao: WM 2026: DFB-Elf klarer Favorit gegen Curaçao.
