According to the “Tagesspiegel” citing “The Athletic”, Real Madrid and Chelsea have agreed on a transfer fee of 60 million euros for Marc Cucurella. The 27-year-old left-back is reportedly set to join the Spanish giants. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano spoke of an “agreement between all parties”.

Cucurella is a target of Real Madrid’s new coach José Mourinho. The Portuguese had already worked with the Spaniard during his time at Chelsea and values his versatility in defense. Cucurella can play both as a left-back and as a winger.

The Spanish international only signed a new contract with Chelsea last summer, which still has three years left. He is one of the key players at the London club. Nevertheless, the club seems willing to let him go for the high transfer fee.

Cucurella might still be remembered by German fans: In the Euro 2024 quarterfinal between Spain and Germany, he committed a handball in the penalty area that the referee did not penalize. UEFA later admitted it was a wrong decision.

The transfer would further strengthen Real Madrid’s defense. Cucurella is expected to intensify competition on the left side, where Ferland Mendy and Fran García are already vying for a spot.
