As Tagesspiegel reports, all four matches on the latest matchday of the football World Cup ended in draws. Former world champions Spain drew 0-0 with outsiders Cape Verde, Belgium and Egypt played 1-1, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay also 1-1, and Iran and New Zealand 2-2. Such a day without a winner last occurred on June 15, 1958, during the tournament in Sweden.
World football governing body FIFA commented on the series on platform X with the words: “Perfectly balanced, as it should be.” Back in 1958, Germany drew 2-2 with Northern Ireland, England 2-2 with Austria, Paraguay 3-3 with Yugoslavia, and Sweden 0-0 with Wales. The current World Cup is still in the group stages, and further surprises are possible.
