AC Milan has ended its weeks-long search for a new coach and presented Ruben Amorim. The 41-year-old Portuguese takes over from Massimiliano Allegri, who was sacked in May. Amorim beat out other candidates, including Oliver Glasner, who had also been considered.

According to information from “Sportschau,” Amorim signed a contract until 2028 with an option for an additional year. The move comes five months after his dismissal from Manchester United. “There are goals that accompany you throughout your entire career, and becoming coach of AC Milan has always been one of my goals,” Amorim said. “I know exactly what this club means: history, prestige, and an extraordinary fan base around the world.”

AC Milan finished only fifth last season and missed out on Champions League qualification. Now Amorim is expected to lead the club back to success. However, it remains unclear which sporting leadership he will work with, after the club dismissed its entire executive board. Zlatan Ibrahimovic stays.

Before his stint at Manchester, Amorim had risen to become one of Europe’s most sought-after coaches. At Sporting Lisbon, he ended a 19-year title drought in 2021 and repeated the success in 2024. At Manchester, however, he led United to 15th place, their worst finish since 1974. His points average of 1.43 is the lowest of any United coach in 50 years.
