The Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Munich attracted tens of thousands of people on Saturday despite the heatwave. According to police and organizers, around 30,000 people took part in the parade, while about 200,000 spectators watched the colorful processions from the sidewalks.
The event took place under the motto “Our Diversity. Our Strength” and included a three-day street festival with concerts and political discussions. Police reported no major incidents, although the Johanniter emergency services had to provide 32 first aid interventions for circulatory problems and sunstroke.
Munich’s mayor Dominik Krause (Greens) is the patron of the event, which aims to send a signal against the increasing number of queerphobic incidents in Bavaria. These rose from 289 to 413 last year, according to the counseling center “Strong!”
