Novak Djokovic has won the longest quarter-final in Wimbledon history. The 38-year-old Serb defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime after 5 hours and 15 minutes in a five-set thriller, the German Press Agency (dpa) reports.

The seven-time Wimbledon winner prevailed on Centre Court 7:6 (12:10), 3:6, 6:3, 6:7 (4:7), 7:6 (10:4). The decisive match tie-break fell minutes before the curfew in southwest London just before 11 p.m. Djokovic is thus the second-oldest player of the professional era to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals, after Ken Rosewall (1974).

“I can still hold my own against these young players who are 15 years younger than me,” Djokovic said after the match. “I manage to beat them by the narrowest of margins. In a way, that’s really a nice surprise.” His opponent Auger-Aliassime paid tribute to the Serb: “Ultimately, he proves once again that he is good when it counts.”

On Friday, Djokovic will face Italian defending champion Jannik Sinner in the semi-final. In 2025, Sinner defeated Djokovic at Wimbledon in three sets; in Australia at the start of this season, the Serb prevailed in five sets. Djokovic said: “I wish it were already the final, then I wouldn’t have to worry about how my body feels tomorrow.”
