Former world footballer Alexia Putellas has found a new club. She is moving to London City Lionesses.

Alexia Putellas, who played a defining role at FC Barcelona, is now moving to London City Lionesses. The 32-year-old, who won numerous titles in her career, is seeking a new challenge abroad. The club did not release details of her contract.

Putellas did not extend her contract with Champions League winners FC Barcelona, where she played 507 games and scored 232 goals. She became world champion with the Spanish national team in 2023 and was named world footballer in 2021 and 2022.

The Lionesses are the first club in the Women’s Super League to operate independently of a men’s football club. Businesswoman Michele Kang also owns French top club Olympique Lyonnais. “The club’s ambition and its clear commitment to developing as an independent club exclusively for women appeal to me very much,” said the 32-year-old Putellas.
