Tadej Pogacar won the sixth stage of the Tour de France in the Pyrenees and reclaimed the yellow jersey. According to Zeit, citing dpa, the Slovenian triumphed after a solo ride over the Col du Tourmalet, finishing 2:38 minutes ahead of Jonas Vingegaard.

The 26-year-old Pogacar attacked about 45 kilometers from the finish on the Tourmalet and rode solo to the finish in Gavarnie-Gédre. Previous race leader Torstein Træen crashed during a descent and suffered multiple rib fractures and a concussion — his Tour is over. Pogacar expressed concern at the finish: “I heard that Torstein crashed. I hope he is okay.”

In the overall standings, Pogacar now leads Vingegaard by 2:42 minutes, with Mexican Isaac del Toro third (3:27 minutes behind). Florian Lipowitz finished sixth on the stage and moved up to seventh overall. “There’s not much you can do about that performance. I think we now have to ride for third place,” said Lipowitz. The sixth stage covered 186.2 kilometers from Pau to Gavarnie-Gédre, with the Col d’Aspin and the Tourmalet as the main difficulties.
