The alliance “Together for Democracy” wants to provide rapid advisory, legal, or financial assistance to those affected, for example after attacks on cultural centers or hate campaigns against volunteers. The solidarity agreement is supported by, among others, the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB), the Protestant and Catholic churches, the German Olympic Sports Confederation, as well as organizations such as Caritas, Greenpeace, and Amnesty International.
DGB chairwoman Yasmin Fahimi told journalists that confrontation and aggression increase significantly during election campaigns. However, the initiative does not draw a direct connection to the current state elections but aims to counter growing aggression in general.
The alliance was founded in 2024. According to the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the potential of right-wing extremists has risen to 58,700 (2024: 50,250), including 15,600 violence-oriented individuals. Last year, the number of far-right violent crimes in Germany increased by nearly nine percent.
