From January the subscription costs €3.80 more. What the new price index, the deadlines and social tickets mean, and when you must act to keep your subscription.

Anyone with a Deutschlandticket subscription will pay €66.80 a month instead of €63 from 1 January 2027. The Bavarian transport ministry announced the figure on 30 September; it is the first increase under a fixed price index. As of 7 November 2026.

The numbers: €3.80 more per month, about 6 percent, or €45.60 over a year (€756 to €801.60). The ticket cost €49 at launch in May 2023, €58 in 2025 and €63 in 2026. According to ADAC, the employer Jobticket will cost €63.46 in 2027 and the student Deutschlandsemesterticket €40.08.

Where does the number come from? In March 2026 the state transport ministers meeting in Lindau adopted a price index that weights staff costs at 55 percent, energy at 20 and general costs at 25. From now on the price is set every autumn and must be announced by 30 September of the previous year, which ends the annual haggling between federal and state governments. Public funding is capped (the federal government and the states pay €1.5 billion a year each), so higher wages and energy bills end up in the ticket price. Our assessment: expect small annual rises rather than a jump like 2025, and industry sources already anticipate another increase for 2028.

What you need to do. It depends on your provider. Some will simply bill the new price. Deutsche Bahn demanded explicit consent by 30 November 2025 last time, and subscriptions without a reply ended at the turn of the year. According to monsterdealz.de, 30 November is again the date this year; check the email from your provider and your account in the Aboportal or DB Navigator, because we could not yet confirm it on Bahn’s own site. To end a subscription, ADAC says cancellation must arrive by the 10th of a month – for December, by 10 December – otherwise January is charged at the new price.

If money is tight. Social tickets depend on state or municipal subsidies. If the subsidy stays fixed in euros, passengers pay the extra €3.80 themselves; in Hamburg the rider’s share would rise from €27.50 to €31.30 (a conditional calculation by gegen-hartz.de). We have not seen an announcement for Bavaria – ask MVG/MVV or your social office whether a reduced fare for benefit recipients exists. If your employer contributes at least 25 percent to a Jobticket, a further 5 percent discount applies.

Is it still worth it? Do the sum: €66.80 works out at roughly €3 a day over 22 working days, so daily commuters and regular regional-train users usually still come out ahead of single fares – compare with your local transport association. Occasional riders can cancel at month-end and sign up again later.
