As FAZ reports, the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Due to the time difference, roughly half of the matches will take place during the European night. The German national team kicks off on Sunday at 7 p.m. against Curaçao, with the remaining group matches at 10 p.m. – still convenient times.

Fans of teams with large immigrant communities in Germany face greater challenges: Croatia’s matches start at 1 a.m., Morocco’s at midnight, and Turkey’s in the early morning hours between 4 and 6 a.m. Should these teams win, car parades are likely to enliven the nights, according to FAZ. Police and regulatory authorities point to traffic rules, but fan emotions will break through.

A special regulation in Hesse, praised by State Minister for Home Affairs Ingmar Jung (CDU), allows restaurateurs to show football until midnight even in outdoor areas – without additional fees. For night fans, this offers little relief.
