The German Football Association (DFB) has set up its base camp for the 2026 World Cup in Winston-Salem, as reported by Spiegel. The city in the US state of North Carolina has historic German roots and offers the team a familiar environment.
The national team is training on the sports fields of an elite university. Much of it recalls previous successful World Cup camps where the team was able to work in similarly secluded and focused conditions.
Winston-Salem is known for its German immigration history and its university, Wake Forest University. The DFB team hopes to find optimal conditions there for preparing for the tournament.
