Alexander Zverev has become the first German male tennis player to reach the Wimbledon final since Boris Becker 31 years ago. The 29-year-old defeated British outsider Arthur Fery 7:6, 6:2, 6:4 in the semi-final.

With the victory, Zverev advanced to the fifth Grand Slam final of his career. Boris Becker was the last German man to reach the Wimbledon final 31 years ago. Zverev could become the first German male winner of the grass-court classic since Michael Stich in 1991.

Zverev, who will become world number two behind the injured Carlos Alcaraz on Monday, was dominant on Centre Court. After an early break, he had to concede the equaliser but dominated the tiebreak 7:0. In the second set, he broke Fery twice, and in the third set one break was enough for a 6:4 final score after 2 hours and 13 minutes.

For the 23-year-old Fery, ranked 114th in the world, who had surprisingly made it to the semi-finals, his impressive tournament run came to an end. Zverev will face the winner of the match between Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic in the final.
