British actor Anthony Hopkins (“The Silence of the Lambs”) has signed a recording contract as a composer with Decca Classics. The album, titled “Life Is A Dream,” will be released on August 21. Hopkins called the release “the honor of my life” and said music was his “first wish.” Many of the pieces have accompanied him throughout his life.
Hopkins has released music before: in 1986, the single “Distant Star” came out, and a few years ago, the album “Composer.” The new compositions were recorded by Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the London Philharmonia Orchestra. The songs reflect childhood memories from his Welsh homeland, among other things. Hopkins was born in Port Talbot in Wales and first sat down at the piano at age four.
Decca Laura Monks praised Hopkins’ “immense talent” and his “lifelong refined knowledge of classical music.” The actor won an Oscar in 1992 for his role as Hannibal Lecter in “The Silence of the Lambs,” followed by a second Academy Award in 2021 for the family drama “The Father.”
