The German Football Association (DFB) has chosen the goal song for the 2026 World Cup. According to the association, after goals by the national team, the song ‘Major Tom’ by Peter Schilling will be played in stadiums in the USA, Mexico and Canada. The track was already the official goal song at the home European Championship in 2024, replacing ‘Kernkraft 400’ by Zombie Nation at the time.
Alongside ‘Major Tom’, the DFB submitted two other songs to FIFA: ‘An Tagen wie diesen’ by Toten Hosen and ‘Zeit, dass sich was dreht’ by Herbert Grönemeyer. When these so-called signature songs will be played during matches remains open. FIFA had given all participating associations the opportunity to suggest their own music for the tournament.
The German team plays its first World Cup match on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. against Curaçao. The game will be broadcast by ARD and MagentaTV.
