German Railways is set to freeze long-distance ticket prices for a year, despite increasing energy costs. Evelyn Palla, the company's CEO, stated in an interview with "Bild am Sonntag" that prices for ICE tickets will remain stable starting May 1. This measure aims to provide security and stability for travelers, especially during uncertain times.

However, the passenger association Pro Bahn expressed concerns, labeling the announcement as insufficient. Detlef Neuß, the honorary chairman of the association, criticized that the railway should lower prices to address current challenges. "A price increase is simply not justifiable in the current situation," Neuß told "Rheinische Post."

Palla linked the price guarantee to the ongoing restructuring of German Railways. She emphasized that the company's restart requires more responsibility and new priorities. "The top priority now is: travel, travel, travel," said Palla. Her goal is to make the railway a "stability anchor in uncertain times."

This announcement marks the second time under Palla's leadership that ticket prices will not increase. Last October, the railway also decided to refrain from raising prices for flexible and saver tickets. Typically, the state-owned company announces price adjustments only in the fall.
