The final of the FIFA World Cup will for the first time in the tournament's history feature a halftime show with international stars. The event will take place on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford near New York.
It was announced a few weeks ago that pop icons Shakira (49) and Madonna (67), as well as South Korean band BTS, would perform during the halftime show. The aid organization Global Citizen, which is producing the show together with FIFA, announced that Nigerian musician Burna Boy will also perform alongside Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the band Coldplay, and a New York elementary school choir. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is curating the program.
With the show, Global Citizen aims to raise money to support children’s education worldwide. The concept is reminiscent of the traditional shows at the Super Bowl, the NFL championship game, which always feature mega-stars.
