The New York Knicks are NBA champions. In Game 5 of the Finals on Thursday in San Antonio, they defeated the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 to secure the fourth win in the best-of-seven series. It is the Knicks’ first title since 1972 and the third in franchise history.

The game’s standout was Jalen Brunson, who scored 45 points, accounting for nearly half of the Knicks’ total. After the final buzzer, he was visibly emotional in an interview with US broadcaster ABC, his voice choked with tears: “You can see it on my face.” The Knicks once again erased a double-digit deficit — three days after a 29-point comeback at Madison Square Garden, they trailed by 16 points at one point.

German player Ariel Hukporti was on the Knicks’ roster. He is the third German basketball professional to win an NBA title, after Dirk Nowitzki and Isaiah Hartenstein. Numerous celebrities, including Prince Harry, Ben Stiller, and Timothée Chalamet, watched the game live.
