As reported by the FAZ, police successfully appealed a court decision that had rejected an extension of surveillance. A court confirmed the necessity of the observation “within the legal framework for averting danger,” the Kiel police department announced on Friday. Officers did not provide details of the measures.
Christian B. was released from a prison in Lower Saxony in September after serving a seven-year sentence for rape, among other offenses. He now lives in a municipal shelter in Kiel. A court-appointed expert considers him to pose a high risk of reoffending. As part of his supervised release, he wears an electronic ankle bracelet.
The Braunschweig public prosecutor’s office classifies B. as a suspect in the case of Maddie, who disappeared from a holiday apartment in Portugal in 2007. No charges have been filed so far.
