Wladislaw Heraskewytsch, a Ukrainian skeleton athlete, has criticized the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for provisionally lifting sanctions against Russian athletes. He described the move as ‘madness’ and ‘a disgrace’. Heraskewytsch called on national sports federations, including the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), to resist.

In an interview with the media outlet ‘Münchner Merkur/TZ’, the 27-year-old said he had expected such a decision, but not so soon. ‘There have been numerous rocket attacks on Kyiv in recent days, people have been killed again,’ he said, criticizing the timing of the IOC’s announcement.

Heraskewytsch hopes that national sports federations will make the right decision and not open the door for Russia. He stressed that it is about more than just the Olympic Games and called on the government to take a clear stance and ban Russian athletes from traveling.
