On Saturday morning at 10:13 a.m. local time, the session at the DFB base in Winston-Salem began with a slight delay. Backup goalkeeper Alexander Nübel was the first to step onto the pitch. With temperatures near 30 degrees Celsius, fans with cooling water mist provided relief, and a pavilion was set up for tactical discussions. Players wore cooling vests, some rolling up their sleeves.

Manuel Neuer played his last international match in the quarterfinal exit of the home Euro 2024 against Spain (1-2 after extra time). He then retired from the national team, but head coach Julian Nagelsmann brought him back for the World Cup. Against Curacao, Neuer would become the oldest German international in history. Nagelsmann warned against underestimating the underdog.
