The 29-year-old from Hamburg won his Wimbledon quarter-final against Taylor Fritz 6:4, 6:4, 6:2. Zverev thus ended a run of seven consecutive defeats against the American.
In temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius, the Hamburg native delivered a focused performance and appeared sharper than his opponent. Zverev could always rely on his serve and controlled the match.
In Friday’s semi-final, Zverev will face British outsider Arthur Fery. It is Zverev’s twelfth Grand Slam semi-final overall. At Wimbledon, he becomes the fifth German man to reach the semi-finals – after Boris Becker, Michael Stich, Rainer Schüttler and Tommy Haas.
