The biker community called for more respect on Sunday at the 41st Hamburg Motorcycle Service in the Michel. According to NDR, around 3,000 motorcyclists attended the traditional service. The church was about 90 percent full, a spokesperson for the event said.
This year, bikers had to forgo the usual convoy to Buchholz. The reason was construction work on the A7 motorway, which led the authorities to cancel the ride. Many motorcyclists who had traveled from afar only learned of the cancellation on site. The disappointment was palpable, the spokesperson said, but gratitude for the event and the emotional atmosphere in the service prevailed.
Hamburg Motorcycle Service has existed since the early 1980s, originally initiated by a police pastor. In 2022, around 3,000 participants with more than 1,000 bikes were counted. At the same time on Sunday, a bicycle rally by the group “Mobil ohne Auto Nord” took place, advocating for a transport transition. There were no complications due to the additional traffic, according to the organizers of the motorcycle service.
