The A8 motorway between Übersee and Bernau has been fully closed since early morning. The cause is a forest and moor fire near Chiemsee. Emergency services are battling the flames, supported by a police helicopter dropping water.
Authorities are warning residents to keep windows and doors shut. The smoke from the fire is causing severe visibility issues on the motorway. How long the closure will last remains unclear — it depends on wind direction and the progress of firefighting efforts.
Around 200 firefighters are on the scene. One firefighter sustained minor injuries. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
