The demonstration was part of the Pride event, held annually in July. Under the motto ‘Together Against Queer Hostility,’ participants marched through the city center. Many wore colorful costumes, rainbow flags, and signs with political demands.
The atmosphere was exuberant but also political: speakers emphasized the ongoing discrimination against LGBTQ+ people. They pointed to the rising number of queerphobic attacks in Germany. The CSD was meant to send a signal that the community is visible and strong.
Organizers called it one of the largest Pride parades in North Rhine-Westphalia. Police reported no major incidents. The procession led from Rudolfplatz to Heumarkt, where a closing rally took place.
