Police are deployed in force at the Welfen-Gymnasium in Schongau. According to a police spokesperson, the incident points to an amok situation, with officers assuming a single-digit number of injured. The suspected perpetrator was arrested after the act, police said.
Several rescue helicopters are in operation, including four from ADAC air rescue. One of the helicopters was used to treat the injured, a spokesperson for ADAC air rescue explained. A contact point for relatives and parents has been set up at the fire station.
The Welfen-Gymnasium is located just a few hundred meters from the old town and the Lech river. According to its website, around 800 students are taught there by more than 80 teachers. The exact background of the act remains unclear.
