According to the newspapers of the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND), Kretschmer said on Friday: “Without changes, we will not be able to approve the pension and care reform in the Bundesrat.” If more states reject it, the reform will not happen. The pension reform is considered a key project of the CDU-led federal government.
Kretschmer justifies his opposition with the employment histories in the East: people there receive lower pensions and are particularly affected by the plans. “I see little understanding for the East in the current federal government,” he criticized. The CDU minister-presidents of Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, Sven Schulze and Mario Voigt, also oppose the abolition of the deduction-free pension after 45 years of contributions.
Kretschmer receives support from the head of the CDU’s social wing, Dennis Radtke. “Those who have worked for 45 years, taken on responsibility, and made their contribution deserve respect and reliability,” he told the RND. Reiche pushes back: “We need a longer working life overall to become competitive again.” The pension commission had recommended abolishing the deduction-free pension entry after 45 years of insurance contributions.
