Germany's Bundestag interior committee convenes on Tuesday to deliberate on consequences of the attack on Berlin's Christopher Street Day parade.

The session takes place during the summer recess in hybrid form: some lawmakers attend in person, others join remotely. Speakers include federal and state police as well as the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

The deliberations follow the attack on the CSD demonstration in Berlin, where a 21-year-old German of Lebanese descent killed a woman and injured 31 people. The suspect, Abdul B., had previously been convicted of state-endangering offenses but was released on probation under juvenile law.

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) is calling for stricter juvenile criminal law, the use of ankle bracelets, and the possibility of preventive detention. The conservative Union faction is also pushing for faster data exchange, for instance between intelligence services and the Federal Criminal Police Office. Revoking citizenship for dual nationals is also under discussion.
