The man had climbed the Untersberg alone via the eastern ridge. When he did not return, relatives alerted the police.
Rescue teams later discovered the body on the German side of the mountain massif. According to initial investigations, the 57-year-old fell from the first climbing sections for reasons still unknown. Police said he was an experienced mountaineer and was climbing alone and unsecured.
