The two regions may now call themselves state-recognized organic model regions – the first in the greater Munich area. Their joint application was selected for the Bavaria-wide funding program, and Agriculture Minister Michaela Kaniber (CSU) presented them with the certificate of appointment. The now 36 regions involved in the project, which encompass more than a thousand municipalities, are intended to become role models in organic farming. Fürstenfeldbruck and Munich-West submitted their application last year.

To advance organic products and farming, the local alliances will receive funding for two years through the respective offices for rural development. This allows for the hiring of a so-called project manager, whose costs the state of Bavaria covers at 75 percent (up to a maximum of 75,000 euros). The model regions are meant to bring together all stakeholders – producers, food artisans, processing industries, retailers, gastronomy, and consumers.

The state capital and the populous district to the west aim to join forces in supplying the population with regional organic food. The application is also intended to increase the share of organic farming.
