This report was not edited by Die Zeit; it was automatically taken over from the German Press Agency (dpa). The storms primarily affected Upper Franconia, Lower Franconia, and Upper Bavaria. In Aschaffenburg, the sewage system could no longer handle the water masses, causing several manhole covers to be pushed out and streets to flood. The city administration stated that the Südring and Goldbacher Viaduct roads were still not or only partially passable on the morning after the storm.
According to DB Regio, rail traffic in the Aschaffenburg area came to a temporary standstill due to lightning strikes on a signal box and a switch malfunction. However, the line closure between Gemünden, Aschaffenburg, and Frankfurt am Main was lifted later that morning. In Upper Franconia, emergency services responded to around 30 incidents involving flooded streets and waterlogged basements. In northern Upper Bavaria, two trees fell during the storms.
