The Olympiapark GmbH had already stated before the start of the World Cup that a public viewing event like the one during the 2024 European Championship would be hardly feasible. The Olympic Stadium is unusable due to renovation work, and the Hans-Jochen-Vogel-Platz is occupied during the tournament by events such as the Münchner Sommernachtstraum or concerts by Toten Hosen. The round of 16 match of the German national team on June 29 also falls during the dismantling phase of the action sports festival Mash, after which the site will be converted for concerts.
Allianz Arena, home of FC Bayern, is also unavailable. The stadium is currently serving as an alternative venue for major events that would otherwise take place at the Olympic Stadium. A concert phase runs until July 17, after which the stage setup must be dismantled again. In response to an inquiry from the SZ, the press office stated: “For this reason, it is logistically and temporally unfortunately not possible for us to implement a public viewing in the Allianz Arena during the relevant period.”
The last possible location would be the Theresienwiese. However, the Department of Labor and Economics explained that the setup for Oktoberfest begins on June 29. During this time, the Theresienwiese cannot be used for events, also to ensure crossing options for residents. Noise protection also plays a role. Fans will therefore have to resort to public viewing in bars, beer gardens, or at home.
