US stock futures fell on Monday as investors awaited progress in Iran nuclear talks and a key inflation reading later this week, CNBC reported.

Futures on the S&P 500, Nasdaq 100, and Dow Jones Industrial Average were in the red on Monday. The trigger was ongoing talks between the US and Iran, during which Donald Trump threatened Tehran over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, according to CNBC’s live blog.

At the same time, market participants are eyeing the release of a key inflation indicator later this week. The data could provide clues on the Federal Reserve’s next policy moves. If inflation comes in higher than expected, hopes for imminent rate cuts could fade.

Asian markets were mixed: some indices gained while oil prices slipped as progress in Iran talks raised the prospect of eased sanctions and a larger crude supply. Investors also focused on shares of Nvidia, SpaceX, and Micron Technology.
